Boogy & Peel: A Must-Try Pizza Spot in Washington, DC

October 17, 2026

Okay Nomsters, if you only save one DC pizza spot this year, make it this one! Boogy & Peel in Dupont Circle is hands down one of my favorite pizza spots EVER, and I don’t say that lightly. Full disclosure before we get into it: my team runs their social media, so I’ve eaten my way through basically their whole menu at least once (lol, tough job, I know).

That also means I can tell you with real confidence that there isn’t a weak spot on it. The pizza’s creative, the sides are no joke, and it’s the kind of place you drag your friends to and then take all the credit when they fall in love. It’s tucked inside 1 Dupont Circle, it’s woman-owned, and the standout for me right now is their seasonal Tomato Sando. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

What Makes Boogy & Peel Special?

Chef Rachael Jennings opened it in 2022 after cooking at Rose’s Luxury and Tail Up Goat, two of DC’s most-loved restaurants, so there’s serious skillz behind what looks like a laid-back pizza joint. The dough’s fermented for 48 hours and baked in a brick oven, and the toppings get creative in the best way (think salsa macha and honey on a pepperoni pie).

It’s woman-owned, and it took Best Pizza from Washington City Paper in 2024. Not many places pull off both a brick-oven round and a proper Detroit square, and they do. That’s exactly why it’s one of my favorite pizza spots ever.

What Kind of Pizza Does Boogy & Peel Have?

Boogy & Peel does two styles: a thin round pie the chef calls a “bastardized Neapolitan,” baked in a brick oven, and a crispy, cheesy Detroit-style square. So if you can’t decide between the thin brick-oven round and the crispy Detroit square, good news, you don’t have to. I’d grab one of each and split it, which is honestly the move with a group.

What to Order at Boogy & Peel

Everything here’s worth a shot, but these are the ones I keep coming back to.

The Tomato Sando ($15)

This is my current obsession and it’s magical, no exaggeration. It’s heirloom tomato, ricotta, pesto mayo, arugula, and fontinella on sourdough focaccia. It’s a seasonal item, so it comes and goes. If you see it on the menu, order it immediately and thank me later. SO freaking good!

Macha Roni ($22)

I really like this one. It’s red sauce, a 50/50 cheese blend, pepperoni, basil, and then salsa macha and honey over the top, so you’ve got that sweet-and-spicy thing going on. Such a fun pie. Quick heads-up, the salsa macha brings peanuts and sesame, so skip it if you’ve got allergies at the table.

Nonna’s Vodka ($19)

If you want something a touch more classic, this is your pie. It’s vodka sauce, parm, fennel seed (and yes, more vodka), finished with basil. A solid pick, and delish.

Lil Bear Chicken Wings ($14)

Do NOT sleep on the wings. They’re brined, fried, and tossed in a sweet chili sauce with lime, cilantro, mint, and peanuts, and they’re genuinely some of the best I’ve had! Six to an order. If you’re more than two people, consider getting two.

A few more that earn their spot:

  • Kale Caesar ($13). I don’t even like salad and I love this one.
  • Schifano Chopped ($16). A loaded Italian chopped with prosciutto, calabrese, and mortadella. Another winner.
  • Sweet Baby Christos ($18). A veggie pie with eggplant, garlic confit, peppers, feta, and honey. Easy to make vegan too, just hold the feta and honey.
  • The Detroit. That crispy cheese-edged square is a must if you’re a corner-slice person.
  • Soft serve and cookies. Save room, the soft serve and chonky cookies are a yum way to close things out.

The Vibe and Experience

It’s casual and easy. You order at the counter (or via QR code at your table), grab a number, and find a seat, so it works just as well for a solo slice as it does for a group pregaming a night out. The Dupont Circle location makes it super convenient, it’s a quick walk from the Metro on the Red Line, and they run a happy hour most days plus half-off pizzas on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30. If you’re making a whole Dupont day of it, you’ve got options nearby, from a rooftop drink at Casamara to a budget-friendly afternoon tea at Kramers.

Would I Go Back to Boogy & Peel?

A thousand times yes. This is one of the first places I send anyone asking where to eat in Dupont Circle, because it nails that sweet spot of creative-but-crave-able, and the prices stay reasonable for the quality. Between the Tomato Sando, the Macha Roni, and those wings, it’s an easy win whether you’re on a date or feeding a hungry crew. It’s firmly in my DC pizza top tier.

Have you guys been to Boogy & Peel yet? Tell me what you order when you go, Nomsters, and save this one for your next trip into the city.
