Koryouri Urara: The Best New Japanese Restaurant in Georgetown
I’m so excited to share this gem with you guys! If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in DC, Koryouri Urara in Georgetown is it. Chef-owner Urara Iwasaki’s ten-course omakase blew my mind, and I couldn’t be more excited to support this amazing Asian-owned business.
Why You’ll Love Koryouri Urara

The omakase at Koryouri Urara is thoughtful, beautifully balanced, and downright delicious. Each of the ten courses feels like a mix of homestyle comfort and refined technique, making the whole experience both cozy and refined.
If you don’t want to join for the tasting menu, there’s also:
- À la carte sushi rolls and sake on their covered patio
- A soon-to-open second floor sushi counter that will highlight Edomae-style nigiri with curated wine pairings
Whether you’re in the mood for a full tasting menu or something a little more casual, there’s something for everyone. The menus change often as well because they’re super seasonal!
Make It a Georgetown Night Out

The location in the heart of Georgetown makes it easy to plan a full night out. Grab dinner at Koryouri Urara, then stroll along Wisconsin Ave or stop by a nearby cocktail bar to keep the evening going. You can usually find parking in the neighborhood, but I recommend getting there early just in case you have trouble locating a spot.
If you want to build out a longer DC day before dinner, afternoon tea at Kramers in Dupont Circle is a fun $29 stop, scones and tea sandwiches at DC’s most iconic bookstore cafe.

Koryouri Urara is hands down one of the most exciting new openings in DC this year. Whether you’re treating yourself to a ten-course omakase or enjoying sushi and sake on the patio, this is a spot you’ll want to return to again and again.
If you want an incredible omakase closer to home in Maryland, Yama Sushi in Ellicott City delivers a thoughtful $60 experience that’s well worth the trip.
If you’re craving more upscale Japanese in DC, Uchi DC just opened in the Golden Triangle and is worth every penny for fans of creative, chef-driven sushi. —
Stay tuned – their Edomae-style sushi counter is opening soon, and I’ll definitely be back to cover it 🫶
