Alright Nomsters, today’s reel is very personal because I’m featuring my boyfriend’s bar, Allegory aka the BEST Cocktail Bar in DC =). Deke’s the creative and bar director there, and he + his team are doing truly incredible things. You could say I’m biased, but I promise I’m not, lol.
They’ve been getting so many accolades as of late, and it’s so well deserved. Honestly, I’m just so proud of him and all the amazing work they’re doing over there! I hope you guys will make the trip to experience it as well!
A lot of people call Allegory a speakeasy, but it’s not really? It’s located behind an unmarked door inside the Eaton Hotel though! I recommend going earlier if you can since their wait times can get crazy, especially on weekends, but the host will take your number and text you when your table’s ready.
If you’re planning a full DC night out, F1 Arcade DC over in NoMa pairs really well with a cocktail bar stop, since they’ve got their own drink program plus Formula 1 racing simulators. If you want dinner before you head here, Fraiche DC in Columbia Heights is doing upscale Cajun and Caribbean food on 14th St NW and it is a really solid date night meal before a cocktail stop.
Once you step inside, you’ll legit gasp at the stunning artwork – their murals will literally take your breath away – and their current cocktail menu is a book with 12 chapters. Very proud to share that it was awarded “Best Cocktail Menu” at World’s 50 Best Bars North America.
Top 3 Best Cocktails at Allegory…According to Me, lol
Anywho, you really can’t go wrong with any of the drinks there, but my favorite cocktails are the Looking-Glass, the Eden, and the Eyes of Flame. The Looking-Glass comes with this amazing champagne lime sorbet, and it’s carbonated which I love. It’s a very crushable vodka drink!

Next up: the Eden. This cocktail’s a super nostalgic drink IMO. It’s a clarified, carbonated and bottled Ramos Gin Fizz. Cool, right? I think it tastes like an orange cream soda, and the garnish is – wait for it – BUBBLES! They will literally garnish it with a bubble gun (food safe bubbles, of course). Such a whimsical presentation – make sure you have your phones ready, hehe.

And lastly, the Eyes of Flame. I used to not be a fan of mezcal, but it very much grew on me over the last few years. I’m a big fan of the smokiness! This is the booziest out of the three drinks I listed, but if you need recommendations, the bar team there will guide you so don’t be afraid to ask.

They also have an awesome food menu! Their chicken sandwich is a banger – some say it’s the best chicken sandwich in DC – and I also love their fried rice, gougeres, and deviled eggs.
If the chicken sandwich has you thinking about DC fried chicken, Honeymoon Chicken in Petworth does halal hot-honey buckets and honey butter rolls, and they recently added a caviar service if you want to make it a whole moment.
