Doozy’s Diner: Where to Get Breakfast and Brunch in Catonsville, Maryland

October 15, 2026

Doozy’s Diner had been on my list for a minute, so I was hyped to finally get to Catonsville and see what the fuss was about. The short version? This local mom-and-pop is doing diner food with way more creativity than it has any right to, and I left already planning my next order.

It’s a breakfast-and-lunch spot (open every day except Tuesday) where the classics get a fun, from-scratch glow-up, and there’s a sneaky New Mexican streak running through the whole menu. Minje and I rolled in to share a spread, and between the hearty green chile patty melt, a genuinely huge bulgogi cheesesteak, and a rotating specialty pancake, we had a blast working through it.

The service was phenomenal too, the kind where your server actually steers you toward the good stuff. If you’re hunting for a creative breakfast in Catonsville, you gotta put this one on your radar, Nomsters.

What Makes Doozy’s Diner a Standout Spot?

What sets Doozy’s apart is that it looks like a cozy neighborhood diner but cooks like something with a point of view. It’s a from-scratch, family-run kitchen that chef Steve Colegrove and his wife Stephanie opened in 2022 in a retro, 1970s-diner kind of space, complete with repurposed church pew seating and thrifted salt and pepper shakers.

The twist that makes it so fun is the Southwestern streak, since Steve’s family roots run to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, so you’ll see real Hatch chiles from New Mexico woven through the menu. They deliberately keep it to breakfast and lunch hours so the owners can be home with their kids at night, which is exactly the kind of mom-and-pop heart that makes a spot worth rooting for.

What to Order at Doozy’s Diner

Minje and I shared a few things so we could taste across the menu, and here’s the honest rundown, the good and the little nitpicks.

Bulgogi Cheesesteak ($16)

This one’s a monster in the best way, shaved ribeye with sauteed onion, KBBQ sauce, kimchi slaw, and cheddar, and they were VERY generous with the meat. The bulgogi’s tender and juicy, though it leans a little on the sweeter side. Real talk, the slaw tasted more like a regular coleslaw than something kimchi-forward, and I thought it could’ve used a bit more acidity to cut against the rich meat. Not a dealbreaker though, it’s still an objectively solid sandwich, I just want you to know what you’re getting into.

Green Chile Patty Melt ($14)

This was the one I’d order again in a heartbeat. It’s a smashburger stuffed with all kinds of yummy goodness: caramelized onion, bacon, cheddar, green hatch chili, avocado ranch, and pickled peppers, all on thick-cut marble rye. It’s hearty and super satisfying, and that hatch chile is where the New Mexican thing really shows up. It comes with chips, but you can add fries or tots for a small upcharge.

Flippity Flapjacks ($12, plus $3 for the special flavor)

These are their rotating specialty pancakes, and the flavor of the week when we went was blueberry crumble, so obviously we had to! They were a lot less sweet than I expected, and the texture was really interesting (in a good way), almost like a mochi pancake. I enjoyed them and I’m genuinely curious to see what flavors they rotate in next, because the kitchen’s clearly having fun. There’s so much on this menu I still want to get back to.

Speaking of which, here’s what I’ve got my eye on for next time:

  • Stacked Enchiladas with corn tortillas, Hatch chile sauce, refried pintos, and a fried egg.
  • Shrimp N Grits with cheddar grits, creole shrimp, and bacon jam.
  • The Thicc Elvis, French toast loaded with bacon jelly, peanut butter fluff, and bananas.
  • Huevos Rancheros and the Santa Fe omelette with brisket, for more of that Southwestern lean.

Tell Me More About These Hatch Chiles…

If you’re wondering why a Catonsville diner is slinging Hatch chiles, here’s the backstory. Chef Steve’s grandmother is from Albuquerque and his dad lives in Santa Fe, so the Southwestern cooking is personal, not a gimmick. The kitchen sources authentic Hatch Valley chile peppers straight from New Mexico, and they turn up in the green chile sauces, the patty melt, and dishes like the stacked enchiladas. It’s a diner-classics menu with a nod to Southwestern heritage, and that little bit of heat and personality is exactly what makes Doozy’s feel different from your standard breakfast joint.

The Vibe and Experience

The vibe is retro, warm, and totally unpretentious, the kind of diner where you settle into a church-pew booth and stay a while. Service was a genuine highlight, a huge thanks to our server for the spot-on recs, and there’s a cute patio on site if you want to dine al fresco. It’s a great fit for a weekend catch-up, a family breakfast, or a solo morning with coffee. Catonsville’s got a fun little food scene, and if you want to make a day of it, Dimsum Palace is another neighborhood spot worth checking out for a completely different kind of meal.
