Angeli’s Pizzeria: Is This One of Baltimore’s Best Pizza Spots?

September 9, 2026

When I heard a Little Italy spot had landed on a national list of the Top 50 pizzerias in the whole country, you already know I had to go see if it lived up to the hype. That spot’s Angeli’s Pizzeria, tucked into Baltimore’s Little Italy on S High St. They’re known for New York style pizza, hand tossed with fresh toppings and that thin, foldable crust.

The Angeli’s Pick pizza was the highlight of the whole meal, piled with pepperoni, sausage, caramelized onions, mushrooms and peppers, and it paired perfectly with an ice cold Pepsi Zero Sugar. If you’re a pizza person hunting down the best slice in the city, definitely give this spot a try and let me know what you think!

What Makes Angeli’s Pizzeria Special

What sets this place apart in a neighborhood packed with Italian restaurants? The accolades. Angeli’s climbed to number 44 on the 2026 50 Top Pizza USA list (up from 47 the year before), and it was the ONLY Maryland spot to make the cut, ranked by an Italian organization near Naples that takes pizza very seriously.

But the story behind it’s just as good. The family originally opened in New Orleans back in 1986, lost everything to Hurricane Katrina, then relocated to Baltimore and rebuilt right here in Little Italy. That’s a lot of heart baked into every pie.

What to Order at Angeli’s Pizzeria

Here’s what I got, plus what’s worth knowing for next time so you can plan your order.

The Angeli’s Pick ($21.95 for a 12 inch, $26.95 for a 16 inch)

This was the star of the show and easily the yummiest moment of the meal. It’s their signature loaded pizza, topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian sausage, caramelized onions, mushrooms and red bell peppers, so you get a little bit of everything in every bite. The crust’s that classic New York style, thin and foldable, which is exactly what you want under all those toppings. And yeah, it paired perfectly with a cold Pepsi Zero Sugar. If you only get one thing here, make it this.

Now, full disclosure, the Angeli’s Pick was the only pie I dug into this visit, so I can’t give you my personal verdict on the rest of the menu just yet. But here’s what they’re known for so you can order smart:

  • Other signature pies: the Margherita (fresh mozzarella, basil, roasted cherry tomatoes), the Miro Special (garlic herb sauce, chicken, pancetta, spinach), the spicy Diavalo Chicken, and the meat-loaded Della Carne. Most specialty pies run $21.95 for a 12 inch and $26.95 for a 16 inch.
  • Pizza by the slice: cheese is $4 and pepperoni’s $4.50, perfect if you’re just wandering through Little Italy and want a quick bite.
  • Beyond pizza: they do calzones, pastas like beef lasagna ($16.50) and fettuccine alfredo ($15.25), apps like the Stolen Meatballs ($8.99) and garlic cheese bread, plus wings you can get tossed in Old Bay because, well, Baltimore.
  • Save room for dessert: the tiramisu and banana pudding are both $6.25.
  • Dietary heads up: there’s a gluten free and a cauliflower crust in a 10 inch size, and veggie options like the Veggie Angeli pizza and a pesto pasta.

Angeli’s is the only Maryland pizzeria to land on the 50 Top Pizza USA list, an international ranking run by the same Italian folks behind the global pizza awards, and it’s climbed the list two years running. On top of that, the Washington Post named it the best spot for New York style pizza in all of Maryland, and it’s racked up best-pizza-in-Baltimore nods from Baltimore Magazine for years.

Do I think any single best-in-the-country list is gospel? Not really, these things are always a bit subjective. But Baltimore’s genuinely having a pizza moment lately (Frank’s Pizza & Pasta is putting out some of the best Detroit style squares in the state)!

The Vibe and Experience

Little Italy’s one of my favorite pockets of Baltimore to wander, all charming rowhomes and twinkly lights, and Angeli’s fits right in. It’s a casual, family-run kind of place, the sort where you can grab a quick slice or settle in for a full pie with the crew. It works whether you’re doing a low-key date night, feeding a hungry group, or refueling after walking around the harbor. The energy’s friendly and unfussy, which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood pizza joint.

Should You Check Out Angeli’s?!

If you’re in the area and check them out, definitely let me know what you think. The Angeli’s Pick is the move if you love a proper New York style slice, but there’s plenty more on that menu. For a totally different pizza mood, that Detroit style square across town is calling my name, and if you want a sit-down Italian dinner in the city instead of a casual pie, Marta is one of my go-tos.
