Fall’s my favorite season, so kicking off apple-picking time at Larriland Farm felt like the perfect way to celebrate. If you’ve never been, it’s this gorgeous pick-your-own farm out in Woodbine, about 45 minutes from both Baltimore and DC, and it’s easily one of my favorite fall day trips in Maryland.
I went recently with my parents to pick apples, and we had such a great time (my dad and I filled a medium bag and walked away with 42 apples, lol, and yes, I counted them in the car). Between rows of orchards, fresh apple fritters, hay rides, and a straw maze, there’s genuinely something for everyone here. If you only grab one thing on your way out, make it the apple fritters, they’re SO good. Consider this your cozy fall bucket-list reminder, Nomsters.

What Makes Larriland Farm Worth the Drive to Woodbine?
Larriland’s not some tiny roadside orchard, it’s a whole experience. The farm’s been run by the Moore family since 1973 (so over 50 years of doing this), and it sprawls across hundreds of acres with a huge range of crops through the season. In the fall, that means apples, pumpkins, and more, plus a full lineup of weekend activities that make it a real destination, not just a quick stop.
It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a whole afternoon: pick your own, ride the hay wagon, wander a maze, and snack your way through. Add that it’s an easy 45-ish minutes from the city, and it’s the perfect low-effort, high-payoff fall outing with your family or friends.

What to Do at Larriland Farm
Here’s how I’d spend a day here, from the orchards to the snack stand.
Pick Your Own Apples ($17 to $32 a bag)
This is the main event. You’ll find varieties like Crimson Crisp, Gala, and Honeycrisp out in the orchards, and you pay by the bag: the smallest runs $17, and the medium (what my dad and I got) is $32 and held about 42 apples. Pro tip straight from the farm, call ahead before you drive out, because what’s ripe changes constantly. Picking your own is honestly half the fun, and it’s such a good activity to do with kids or your parents.

The Fall Festival Activities
On weekends, Larriland turns into a whole fall festival. There are hay rides, a corn maze, a straw-style maze, and their Boo Barn, which is a fun, kid-friendly spooky walk (great for the little ones). It’s the kind of stuff that makes an afternoon here feel like a proper autumn outing instead of just a grocery run. If you’ve got kids in tow, this is where they’ll want to spend most of the time.
Apple Fritters and Cider Slush ($7 and $5)
Okay, the snacks. The fresh apple fritters ($7 an order) are the thing I’d tell you not to leave without, they’re homemade with their own apples, freshly fried, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and dusted with powdered sugar. SO good. I also grabbed an apple cider slush ($5) that was ridiculously refreshing. They’ve got mini donuts too, which I didn’t get to this time, but they’re next on my list. Heads up, all the goodies are a weekend thing, so plan accordingly.
When Is Apple Picking Season at Larriland Farm?
If you’re wondering when to go, Larriland’s fall season typically runs from early September through the end of October (in 2026, that’s September 8 to October 31), with the weekend activities going the whole stretch. One real-talk heads-up: a hard spring frost hit a lot of Maryland orchards this year, so the apple crop’s been lighter than usual.
The good news is you can still pick, you just want to call their Harvest Hotline (410-442-2605) the morning of to see exactly what’s ready. A two-minute call saves you a wasted drive.
The Vibe and Experience
The whole vibe here is peak cozy fall. Think a big red barn, rows of apple trees, families wandering around with their bags, and that crisp autumn-air feeling you just can’t fake. I went with my parents, and it turned into one of those simple, happy days you actually remember, wholesome in the best way.
It’s super family-friendly (kids will be in heaven), but it’s just as fun for a group of friends chasing that seasonal energy. Weekends bring the full festival, so it can get busy, plan your timing around how mellow or lively you want the day to feel.

A hundred percent yes. Larriland more than earns the drive, and between the pick-your-own, the activities, and those apple fritters, it’s the kind of day you’ll want to make an annual fall tradition.
