A lot of you keep asking me for more affordable recommendations, so here’s an option for ya. Asian Wok & Bowl just opened in Gambrills, and it’s all about value, freshly made American Chinese in combo deals that are hard to beat. I’ll be real with you though: would I say it’s amazing Chinese food? Not exactly. But that’s not what it’s going for. It’s solid for the price, everything came out fresh, and it’s a quick, budget-friendly option if you’re already in the area. Here’s what I ordered, what I’d get again, and what I’d skip.

What Makes Asian Wok & Bowl a Solid Value Option in Gambrills
No frills here, and that’s the point, freshly made American Chinese at combo prices that are tough to beat, 2 dishes with soup and rice for $11.99, or 3 dishes for $14.99. The menu’s bigger than just the combos too, with appetizers, rice and noodle bases, a Japanese ramen section, and chef’s specials, so there’s room to explore. If you’re hunting affordable, no-fuss takeout in the area, that’s exactly the lane this fills. If you want more proper Chinese in the area, Mai Dragon’s dim sum in Hanover is a step up.
How Do the Combo Deals Work?
The value’s all in the combos, so it’s worth knowing them before you order. Two main options: 2 dishes with soup and rice for $11.99, or 3 dishes for $14.99. I went with the 3-dish combo so I could try a range in one go, which is the move if you’re torn between a few things. There’s also a Japanese Ramen Combo for $16.99 if you want to head that direction. Everything’s made fresh and packed into cute to-go containers, so it’s built for grab-and-go more than a sit-down meal.

What to Order at Asian Wok & Bowl
I went with three dishes so I could sample a range. Here’s how it shook out.
General Tso’s Chicken
Solid, and one of the better picks of the bunch. Good flavor, and a safe, reliable order if you want that familiar sweet-and-savory classic. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.
Mongolian Beef
Good flavor overall, though it was a little chewy. Still tasty, and the rice alongside it was cooked nicely.

What to Skip
The homestyle tofu wasn’t seasoned enough for me, so I wouldn’t get it again, and the hot and sour soup wasn’t my thing either. If you go, maybe try the egg drop soup instead, and lmk if it’s any good!
Would I Go Back to Asian Wok & Bowl?
I’ll be real with you: probably not out of my way, gas is expensive and the traffic around here’s rough, lol. But that’s more about me than about them. If you live or work nearby and want something affordable, fresh, and quick, it’s a perfectly good option, just go in expecting a reliable value play rather than a destination. For a brand-new spot, that’s a solid place to be. For more affordable eats right in Gambrills, there’s Big Chicken.
The Vibe and Experience
It sits in a small retail strip along Route 3 and runs mostly as carryout, you order, they pack everything into those to-go containers, and you’re out the door. The upside’s speed and easy pickup, so it’s built for a quick, affordable dinner run more than a sit-down night.
