You guys know I’m a sucker for BBQ, so I was genuinely happy to finally get to Wieland’s BBQ. It’s a barbecue food truck tucked behind Tastee Zone in Catonsville, run with a custom trailer and a rotisserie smoker they had built just for it, and it’s known around here for its sandwiches.
The brisket ended up being the move for both me and Deke, and if you love a little heat like I do, their Carolina sauce is the one to reach for. We braved a freezing day and ate at the picnic tables right by the truck because we couldn’t wait, lol. It’s a solid, no-frills spot that makes a really great BBQ option in the area, and here’s everything we tried plus what’s worth knowing before you roll up to the window.
@nomtastickim I’m a sucker for BBQ so I was happy I finally got to try @wielandsbbq. Located in Catonsville behind Tastee Zone, this food truck’s known for their delicious sandwiches 🫶 Here’s everything @deke_dc and I tried: their Brisket Sandwich ($13), their Hubsters (1/2 turkey, 1/2 pork for $13), their Mac n Cheese ($3.25), and their Cole Slaw ($3.25). We made one of our sandwiches a meal and got 2 sides + a free drink with it. I can’t remember what that cost though, lol. Sorry Nomsters! I need to remember to take pics of the receipt 😅 ANYWHO, we both thought the food was solid – a really great option for BBQ in the area for sure. We didn’t want to wait so we ate at one of the tables near the truck even though it was freezing out, lol 😬 Both of their sauces were good – I liked the Carolina a bit more (vinegar based + spicy, and you guys know I love heat). Both Deke and I liked their brisket best, and I thought their cole slaw was awesome. It’s vinegar based though so you need to really like that kind of taste + acidity (which I do) 😆 Additional Notes📝 ▪️They had a custom trailer + rotiserrie smoker built for their truck ▪️There’s a picnic area there so you can enjoy your food while it’s hot – I’m guessing it gets packed in the spring/summer ▪️Their walk-up window menu’s available W-Sa from 11:30-7pm (or ‘till sellout) Have you guys visited this food truck yet? Woudl love to hear your thoughts if so 😃 And PS. I’m diligently updating my blog and categorizing by location so hopefully you guys will find that useful down the road. I’m sorry it’s taking me so long ❤ 📍1715 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville ⏰W-Sa 11:30-7pm #catonsville #mdfood #mdfoodie #mdfoodies #marylandfoodie #marylandfoodies #catonsvillemd ♬ Creme's Interlude (feat. What Makes Wieland’s BBQ Stand Out?
Wieland’s is a true food-truck operation, owned by Mark Wieland, smoking its own meats on site in that custom rotisserie rig. What makes it stand out is that it does the fundamentals right and keeps the lineup tight, with brisket, pulled pork, and smoked turkey built into a handful of half-pound sandwiches, plus rotating specials like ribs and smoked wings on certain days.
There’s no sit-down dining room, just a walk-up window and a covered picnic area, which is exactly the low-key, come-as-you-are energy I want from a BBQ truck. It’s the kind of neighborhood spot that earns its regulars one brisket sandwich at a time.
What to Order at Wieland’s BBQ
Brisket Sandwich (around $13)
This was the clear winner for both of us. It comes off the smoker with a proper hit of smoke, and it’s the one to get. If you’re only getting one thing off the window, make it the brisket, and then decide how committed you are to the heat before you pick a sauce. You can also get brisket by the pound or in a party box if you’re feeding a crowd.

The Hubster
If you can’t choose between proteins, the Hubster solves it, since it’s a half-and-half of smoked turkey and pulled pork on one sandwich. We tried it alongside the brisket, and it’s an easy way to sample two of their smoked meats in one sandwich. The menu runs a few of these combo-style sandwiches, including a brisket-and-pork option and a Philly-style brisket cheesesteak, so there’s range if you keep coming back.
The Sides: Mac n Cheese and Cole Slaw ($3.75 each)
We rounded things out with the smokey mac and cheese and the cole slaw, and the slaw was awesome! Heads up though, it’s vinegar-based, so you’ve really got to like that tangy, acidic style (which I very much do). If creamy is more your thing, just know this one leans sharp. They also do baked beans with chunks of brisket in them, right alongside the mac and cheese.
What’s Carolina BBQ Sauce?
Worth a quick word on the sauce, since the choice actually matters here. Wieland’s runs two sauces, a Carolina and a Kansas City. The Carolina style is a thin, vinegar-based sauce with a tangy, peppery kick, totally different from the thick, sweet, tomato-y style most people picture when they think BBQ sauce. I preferred the Carolina because it’s got that vinegar bite and a little spice, and you guys know I love heat! If you want the classic sweet-and-sticky experience, go Kansas City.
Find Wieland’s Behind Tastee Zone…
The one thing to know going in is that this is a food truck, not a storefront, parked in the lot behind Tastee Zone on Edmondson Avenue. There’s plenty of parking in the shared lot and a covered picnic area to eat at, which I’m guessing gets packed once the weather warms up (we clearly didn’t wait for that, lol).
It shares that lot with a rotating cast of other trucks, so it’s a fun little food-truck corner of Catonsville. If you’re building a bigger Catonsville food crawl, it’s worth bookmarking Grace’s Thai Kitchen, another truck that sets up in the same spot.

The Vibe and Experience
The whole experience is casual and quick: walk up to the window, order, and post up at the picnic tables with your food while it’s hot. It’s a grab-and-go kind of place rather than somewhere you linger for hours, though the covered seating means you can absolutely eat on site. It’s great for a solo lunch, a laid-back weekend bite, or grabbing a few sandwiches to take home. Just plan around the hours, because once they sell out, that’s it for the day.

Is Wieland’s BBQ Worth A Trip?
Yes! If you’re after solid, honest BBQ in the Catonsville area, Wieland’s delivers, and that brisket is reason enough to pull into the lot. It’s a casual food-truck situation, not a fancy sit-down, but the smoke’s on point and the Carolina sauce won me over.
