Gourmet Grilled Cheese in Catonsville: Grilled Cheese & Co.

The best grilled cheese in Maryland? Say less. Owners Eileen and Shawn recently invited me in to check out Grilled Cheese & Company, and there was no chance I was turning that down. Before we get into the details, I want to give a big thank-you to their team for generously treating me to lunch.

This spot is all about refined comfort food – think buttery, perfectly crisp grilled cheeses stuffed with bold, creative fillings. Every sandwich we tried was cooked to golden perfection, and it’s easy to see why this place has such a loyal following.

What I got at Grilled Cheese & Co.:

  • Crabby Melt ($13.99): One of their bestsellers, and for good reason. This sandwich is loaded with their house-made crab dip made with sweet claw crab meat, then topped with Monterey Jack cheese. It’s rich, indulgent, and generously filled.
  • Smashed Meatball ($11.99): Made with provolone, Italian meatballs, marinara, and parmesan, this one was comforting and satisfying. I highly recommend dipping it into their tomato soup – it took the whole meal to another level.
  • Tomato Basil Soup ($4.99): Homemade and outstanding. Easily one of the best tomato soups I’ve had in the area. If you’re coming here, getting soup with your sandwich is a must. FOR REAL.
  • The Gobbler ($12.99): One of their seasonal sandwiches, featuring sliced turkey, smoked gouda, potato pancakes, apple butter, and arugula, served on pumpernickel or your choice of bread. There’s a lot going on here in the best way – great textures and flavors throughout. As someone who loves Thanksgiving-inspired food, this one really hit the spot.
  • Apple Pie-Wich ($9.99): This one surprised me the most. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this was a banger. Filled with sweet apple pie filling, sharp cheddar, cinnamon, and caramel syrup on ciabatta, it’s the perfect sweet-and-savory sandwich. Truly a standout.

Beyond the food, the service here deserves a shoutout. The team was incredibly warm and welcoming, which always makes a good meal even better. I’ll absolutely be back. I also ran into one of my followers while I was there – always such a cool experience connecting with you all in person. Please never hesitate to say hello.
