If you haven’t been to Z&Z yet… run, don’t walk. This cozy, family-owned gem in Rockville, Maryland has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the DMV, and for good reason.

Located right next to Shanghai Taste, Z&Z is a small but mighty Middle Eastern bakery specializing in manoushe, a traditional Levantine flatbread that’s baked to order and topped with everything from za’atar to cheese to savory meats. It’s comforting, flavorful, and made with so much heart.

If you love exploring Middle Eastern food across the DMV, Pitamore in Baltimore is worth adding to your list, a fast-casual build-your-own shawarma spot downtown with two locations.

A True Family-Owned Gem

Z&Z is owned and operated by a family that’s been in the restaurant world for generations, and you can truly feel that care in every bite. From the warm hospitality to the thoughtfully crafted menu, this is one of those places that instantly feels special. Here’s what you should get:

• Classic ($9): A traditional manoushe topped with Palestinian za’atar and olive oil. Simple, fragrant, and unbelievably delicious. Pro tip: get all three dipping sauces – toum, labneh, and shatta – and thank me later.
• Lebanese Bride ($13): Topped with labneh, za’atar, fresh veggies, and a drizzle of olive oil. Light, and beautifully balanced, this was super yum and felt borderline healthy, lol. Truly chef’s kiss.
• Hot Halaby Honey ($17): A rich blend of three cheeses, topped with sujuk (beef sausage), Aleppo pepper, and honey. Sweet, spicy perfection that’s sure to be love at first bite for any meat eater.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go…

• You order at the counter, and they’ll bring your food out to you.
• It’s a cozy space with limited seating, so go early or during off-hours if you plan to dine in.
• They offer vegetarian options, which is always a win.
• You can also shop for spices, desserts, and pantry goodies to take home.
• Do not skip the cold brew with cardamom cream – it’s next level for real.

Z&Z is one of those places that instantly makes you want to come back. Easily a 10/10 in my book. If you’re anywhere near Rockville, put this on your must-try list – I promise you’ll leave happy and full.
