The Kunafa Truck: A Must Visit Dessert Truck in Vienna, VA

August 25, 2026

Real talk, I don’t get out to NoVa much because the traffic genuinely stresses me out, lol. But some spots are 100% worth the drive out there, and The Kunafa Truck (aka TKT) is one of them. I featured them once in a weekend recap a while back, and their kunafa was so yum that I knew they deserved their own standalone feature. TKT’s a Palestinian-owned dessert spot parked right in the middle of a Shell gas station lot on Leesburg Pike in Vienna, which, if you’ve followed me for a while, you KNOW is exactly my kind of hidden gem.

Some of the best food in the DMV comes out of unassuming little setups exactly like this one. I got their original kunafa (around $10), and it was SO good, all that hot, crispy-meets-gooey magic that makes kunafa so special. If you love Middle Eastern sweets, or you’ve been kunafa-curious since it started blowing up online, this is the one to make the drive for!

What Makes The Kunafa Truck a Standout Dessert Spot in Vienna

Kunafa’s their whole thing, and you can tell they take it seriously. This isn’t a place with a 40-item menu where dessert’s an afterthought. It’s a focused, Palestinian-owned operation built around doing one iconic dessert really, really well, made fresh to order so you get it hot. That unassuming setup only adds to the charm IMO, it’s the kind of no-frills gem where the food does all the talking. They also lean into the fun, customizable side of kunafa with a bunch of flavors, so it’s approachable whether you’re a purist or you want yours loaded with Nutella.

What to Order at The Kunafa Truck

Here’s what I got and what’s next on my list.

The Original Kunafa (around $10)

This is what I got, and it’s the one I’d tell anyone to start with. Kunafa’s built on shredded, buttery phyllo that crisps up golden on the outside, layered over soft, melty sweet cheese, then soaked in a light sugar syrup and finished with crushed pistachios. That hot-crispy-outside, gooey-stretchy-inside contrast is the whole magic of it, and theirs nailed it. It’s rich and sweet in the best way, and easily one I’d happily drive back for. A must if it’s your first time.

The Flavored Kunafa (Nutella, Lotus Biscoff, Strawberry, Pistachio)

If you want to go beyond the classic, they do a lineup of flavors, including Nutella, Lotus Biscoff cookie butter, strawberry, and extra pistachio, and you can usually get it crispy or soft depending on your texture preference. I went with the original this round, but the Nutella and Biscoff versions are calling my name for next time. Great option if you’re sharing with friends and want to try a couple.

Chocokunafa Cup or Bar

They also do a Chocokunafa in cup or bar form, which is basically that viral kunafa-meets-chocolate situation in a grab-and-go shape. Perfect if you want something a little more portable than a full tray of kunafa.

Turkish Coffee

The team generously treated us to a Turkish coffee to sip alongside our dessert, and I’m so glad they did. Turkish coffee is small, strong, and intense, and that bold, unsweetened cup is a classic match for something as rich and sweet as kunafa. They’ve got karak chai and lattes too if that’s more your speed.

What Is Kunafa, Exactly?

If you’re new to it, kunafa (also spelled knafeh) is a classic Middle Eastern dessert with deep roots in Palestinian cuisine. It’s traditionally made with kataifi, super thin shredded phyllo dough, layered with a soft, mild cheese, baked until the pastry turns golden and crisp, then drenched in a sweet syrup and topped with crushed pistachios. The signature is that contrast: crunchy, buttery pastry on the outside and warm, stretchy cheese in the middle. It’s the same dessert that inspired the whole viral “Dubai chocolate” pistachio-kunafa craze, so if you’ve been curious what the fuss is about, going straight to the source like TKT is the best way to try it.

The Vibe and Experience

Set your expectations for a truck, not a sit-down cafe, and you’ll love it. You walk right up, order, and grab your dessert to go. The late hours are a huge plus, this is a real late-night sweet-tooth spot, so it’s clutch whenever a dessert craving hits after dark! It’s casual, friendly, and honestly kind of iconic that some of the best kunafa around is coming out of a gas station parking lot in Vienna.
