This post is sponsored by Orange Pocket, but all opinions are my own.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this might be one of the cutest stores I’ve ever walked into! Orange Pocket is bringing its very first East Coast location to Gaithersburg, and it officially opens THIS Saturday, 9/19, tucked inside RIO Lakefront.
If you’ve never heard of it, picture a bright little wonderland of Asian pop-culture finds: blind boxes, collectibles, adorable plushies (including scented ones), K-beauty and skincare, Korean and Asian snacks plus drinks, claw and capsule machines, stationery, home goods, and even birthday cards you can personalize with your own voice. Basically, if it’s cute, there’s a really good chance you’ll find it here.
I got an early look before the doors open to everyone this weekend, and there’s seriously so much to dig through. Let me walk you through what’s inside and why you’re going to want to give yourself plenty of time to browse.

Why Orange Pocket Stands Out Among Asian Variety Stores in Maryland
Orange Pocket started in Texas, where it built a whole following around one simple idea: a small space packed with big finds. This Gaithersburg store’s the brand’s first location outside Texas and its debut on the East Coast, which is a big deal if you’re into Asian pop-culture collectibles and haven’t had a dedicated spot for them close by.
What sets it apart from a regular gift shop is how much it crams into one bright, colorful room. It’s a toy store, beauty aisle, snack run, and claw-machine arcade rolled into one. Everything’s curated around the same theme, cute, giftable, and just plain fun to dig through, so it’s the kind of place where you walk in for one thing and walk out with five.
What You’ll Find at Orange Pocket
Here’s what stood out to me, and where I’d tell you to start.
Blind Boxes and Collectibles
Blind boxes are the whole vibe here, and they’re exactly what they sound like: sealed boxes where you don’t know which figure you’re getting until you open it. That surprise is the fun part, and it’s hard to stop at just one. The brand’s other stores stock names collectors know, like Sonny Angel, Smiski, Jellycat, and Pokemon, so if you’ve been chasing a specific series, this is the kind of place to check. And even if you’re not a hardcore collector, the little figures make great desk toys and gifts.

Plushies That Actually Smell Like Magic
Okay, the plushies got me. Some of them are scented, and I’m telling you, they legit smell like magic! If you’re shopping for a kid, or let’s be real, for yourself, these are an easy win.
K-Beauty, Skincare, and Asian Snacks
If you came for the snacks, you’re covered. There’s a whole selection of Korean and Asian snacks and drinks, the kind that are fun to try even when you can’t read every label. There’s also a K-beauty and skincare section, so you can grab sheet masks and cute skincare while you’re at it. It’s an easy way to blow your budget in the best way, snacks in one hand, skincare in the other.
Claw Machines, Capsule Machines, and More
Beyond the shelves, there are claw machines and capsule (gachapon) machines if you want to try your luck, plus stationery, home goods, and those personalized birthday cards you can record your own voice on. Give yourself time here, because there are adorable little finds tucked into every corner, and you WILL miss things if you rush.
Blind Boxes Explained: What They Are and Why They’re Popular
If you keep seeing blind boxes everywhere and aren’t sure what the hype’s about, here’s the short version. A blind box is a sealed package that hides which figure or toy is inside, so every purchase is a little surprise.
Most come in a themed series, and part of the fun’s trying to collect the whole set or hunting for a rare “secret” version. It’s the same thrill as ripping open a pack of trading cards, just in adorable figure form. At Orange Pocket they’re front and center, which is exactly why the store’s so easy to lose track of time in.
The Vibe and Experience
RIO Lakefront is honestly one of the more fun spots to shop in the DMV. It’s an open-air center built around a big lake, with walking paths, a carousel, and paddle boats, plus free parking garages. Orange Pocket sits right in the mix, so it’s easy to make a whole afternoon of it. If you get hungry, you’re near other Gaithersburg favorites, like the Japanese sandos at Neko Nook Cafe. Bring the family too, because the kids are going to lose it over the claw machines.

Is Orange Pocket Worth a Visit?
Yes, especially if anything I just described made you smile. If you love blind boxes, plushies, K-beauty, or Asian snacks, this is an easy yes and a genuinely fun browse, not just a quick in-and-out. It’s also a great gift-shopping stop and a fun one to bring the kids to. Make a day of it at RIO, and maybe cap the trip with a treat from EDSTUDIO, one of my favorite Asian bakeries in Gaithersburg.
Send this to someone who’d absolutely lose their mind in here, and if you make it to the grand opening this weekend, let me know what you snag in the comments, Nomsters. I want to see your hauls!
