It’s been a minute since I last blogged! Sorry Nomsters, I’ve been super busy with work, but I promise to try and be more consistent moving forward. Anywho, for today’s post, we’re going to talk about 5 must try sandwich spots in Maryland! And as always, this list is in *no* particular order – these are just 5 places I love.
1. Soko Butcher
If you haven’t visited Soko yet, you are high key missing out. They have some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, and I literally love everything I’ve ever gotten. Located in Takoma Park, chef Brad works with local and sustainable farms that raise animals ethically and humanely. And in case you didn’t know, Soko doubles as a butchery + sandwich shop!
I highly recommend getting The Cowboy, The Butcher and The Rosenda Roast. PS. In addition to their core menu, they have uber creative weekly specials available so there’s always something new to try. PSS. make sure you get tallow fries with your meal + a Nightingale ice cream to end your meal on a sweet note.
📍7306 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD
2. The Duchess
$2.50-$3.50 sandwiches?!?!?! Yes, you read that correctly. Don’t expect anything super fancy, but you’ll get serious bang for your buck here. Miss Maggie PACKS her handhelds with meat, and it all has a very nostalgic feel to it. Like you’re eating a sandwich mom would’ve packed for you as a kid.
This no-frills hole-in-the-wall offers 7 sandwiches total, and free toppings include lettuce, tomato, mayo/mustard, cheese and onion. I like their roast beef & ham, and their ice cream’s bomb, too. Hershey’s I believe? Definitely don’t leave without getting a shake! It’s $3.75 and super yum.
📍4126 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City
3. RegionAle
This place has been one of my go-to spots for *so* long! I especially love their location in Canton – they have 2 places total, soon to be 3 – because they have a beer wall + trivia nights on Wednesdays. My favorite sandwiches there are their Philly Cheesesteak (the mushroom is fire, too), the NY Italian, Nashville chicken (SO good), and their Pork Tenderloin. They also do a mean smashburger!
As for sides, their broccoli shred’s my favorite, but Ginger’s Hot Chicken is also located inside so you can get Curley fries with your meal as well! They also make all their chips in house (4 flavors to choose from), and their cookies are satisfying as well.
📍2400 Boston Suite, Suite 120, Baltimore, MD
4. Bon Fresco
SO, soooo good. Bon Fresco Columbia is literally one of my new favorite places to eat. The London Broil’s easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, and it’s made with medium-rare steak with dijoinnaise, provolone, mixed greens, and red onions on ciabatta. 11/10 recommend.
All of their bread is made in house, and the pricing’s super reasonable. The aforementioned handheld’s only $10.95, and trust me when I say the food’s quality. Their picante chicken was also fantastic, and that was even *more* affordable. Pro tip: make sure you grab some bread to go + a pastry or baked good for dessert!
📍6945 Oakland Mills Road Set B, Columbia
5. Mikey & Mel’s Deli
My first time visiting and certainly not my last! I got their Harley this time ’round and thought the food was standout. Pricing was a little steep, but you’re basically paying for 2 meals so it’s not too bad if you think about it. This goodness came stuffed with corned beef, pastrami, muenster, cole slaw, and mustard, and for my two sides (included in the price of $21.95), I got housemade chips + potato pancake (a small upcharge).
Did I mention there’s a pickle bar as well? YEP! It’s as amazing as it sounds, and it’s only $1.99 per person. There are all kinds of noms to choose from (ie. pickled green tomatoes, olives, sauerkraut + more) so definitely make sure to get this as an add on.
📍8191 Maple Lawn Blvd, Fulton
Alright Nomsters, that’s a wrap for must try sandwich shops in Maryland. Have you guys been to any of these places? Let me know what your go-to is by commenting below? Until next time! And BTW, I’m going to try and update at least once a week so feel free to leave requests. I’ll do the best that I can, lol.
One more spot worth adding to your sandwich radar: The Big Cheese Annapolis is a gourmet sandwich shop and specialty market near City Dock with standout builds like the Annapolitan (turkey, brie, and Granny Smith apple).
