Day 42 of eating at 100 Asian restaurants in Maryland is a pastry day, lol, and yes, I know a bakery isn’t technically a restaurant, but Morning My Day in Silver Spring is one of my absolute faves, so I had to include it! This tiny Japanese bakery makes everything from scratch daily, and it’s the kind of family-run gem you root for the second you walk in.
Their purple yam flower bun is the top seller (for good reason), but honestly you could point at almost anything in the case and be happy. Owners Wendy and Alan are two of the sweetest people you’ll meet, and this time around they recognized us from our first feature and generously comped our tab, which was so kind. If you love Asian bakeries the way I do, Morning My Day is a must, and here’s everything you should grab when you go.

Why is Morning My Day a Must Visit Bakery in Silver Spring
What sets Morning My Day apart is that it’s genuinely a from-scratch operation, and you can taste the care. Wendy runs the cakes and Alan handles all the fresh breads, so the whole case is baked in-house daily rather than shipped in. That split is kind of the magic: you get delicate cakes AND pillowy, made-that-morning buns under one little roof. Add great boba to the mix and it becomes a one-stop treat run. It’s small, it’s personal, and it’s exactly the kind of neighborhood spot I want to see win. For me, a from-scratch bun beats a mass-produced one every single time, and this is where I go for it in Silver Spring.
What to Order at Morning My Day
Purple Yam Flower Bun
This is the number-one seller and the thing I’d tell any first-timer to get. Purple yam (aka ube) is a naturally sweet, nutty purple tuber, and here it’s tucked into a soft bun shaped like a little flower, so it’s as pretty as it is good. If you only try one thing, make it this!

Black Sesame Mochi Bread
Another must, and a great pick if chewy textures are your thing. Mochi bread has that signature springy, stretchy pull from the rice flour, and the black sesame gives it a toasty, nutty flavor that keeps it from being too sweet. It’s the kind of thing you don’t find at a regular bakery.
Tiramisu
Proof that Wendy’s cake side of the shop is no afterthought. Their tiramisu made my must-try list, and it’s a great pick if you want something on the dessert-cake end of the case rather than another bun.
And do NOT leave without a drink, because the boba here is phenomenal, so plan on grabbing one to sip while you browse. One more pro tip straight from me: ask them to heat your noms up if you’re eating soon. It makes the breads taste even better, and it’s such an easy way to level up your order. If you want to keep exploring, the case also has taro, matcha, red bean, coconut, and cream buns, plus roll cakes and milk teas.
What’s a Purple Yam Flower Bun?
It’s a soft, flower-shaped bun filled with purple yam aka ube. Ube is popular across Southeast Asian and Filipino baking, and it’s prized for a mellow, vanilla-meets-nutty sweetness (and, yes, that gorgeous natural purple color). At Morning My Day it’s the top seller, which tracks, because it’s the perfect intro to the shop: a little sweet, a little different, and totally photogenic. If you want to go deeper on the ingredient, this ube bun explainer breaks it down well.
The Vibe and Experience
Morning My Day is a cozy, intimate little space, more grab-and-go than sit-down, with a couple of small tables if you want to linger. The real warmth comes from Wendy and Alan, who genuinely make you feel like a regular (the fact that they remembered us from a past visit says it all). It’s the opposite of a sterile chain bakery, and that personal touch is a huge part of what makes it so easy to love. It’s a lovely quick stop if you’re already exploring downtown Silver Spring, which is packed with good eats like Yu Noodles just down the way.

Is Morning My Day Worth A Visit?
YES, it’s one of my go-to Asian bakeries in the DMV and an easy Silver Spring recommend. Go for the purple yam flower bun, stay for the boba, and be nice to Wendy and Alan because they’re the sweetest. If you’re building a whole Silver Spring food day, Kook Kai’s is another family-run gem in the area I love.
