Okay Nomsters, I’ve got a new taco spot for you, and it kind of snuck up on me. I was on my way out to Richmond the other day and stopped into Mi Casa Taqueria in Gaithersburg to grab a quick bite. And I’m so glad I did. This little taqueria off Gaither Road is putting out seriously good tacos, and there’s one in particular I could’ve happily kept ordering (more on that in a sec).
They do tacos, burritos, birria pizza and a bunch more, all fast-casual and easy on the wallet. I went with their 3 taco special and honestly wished I’d ordered double. If you’re near Gaithersburg and you love a good taco, this one’s worth the stop. Here’s everything I got and exactly what I’d order next time.

What to Know About Mi Casa Taqueria
Here’s the deal with Mi Casa. It’s a fast-casual setup, you order at the counter and they build your tacos fresh, but the quality punches way above what “fast-casual” usually means. The menu’s bigger than you’d expect too, with tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, birria pizza and loaded fries all on offer.
What sets it apart for me is two things: the protein range and the salsas. You can get everything from chicken Tinga and al pastor to carne asada, birria barbacoa, chipotle shrimp, and even lengua (beef tongue) if you’re feeling adventurous. And that self-serve salsa station is a game changer, but I’ll get to that below.
Gaithersburg and nearby Rockville have quietly turned into a great taco corridor lately, Hijos del Maiz in Rockville is another recent favorite of mine, and Mi Casa fits right in. For a spot that only opened in 2026, they’re already turning out tacos worth going out of your way for.
What to Order at Mi Casa Taqueria
The 3 Taco Special ($11.95)
Let’s start with how I ordered, because the 3 taco special is the move here. You get three tacos for $11.95 with chicken and pork proteins, or you can bump up to a beef and seafood set for $14.25. I went with the chicken-and-pork option and got to mix and match, which is exactly what you want when you can’t make up your mind (me, always). They come as soft tacos, and you can keep them plain or add cheese and consome for a few extra bucks. Solid value for what lands on the tray.

Chicken Tinga Taco ($4.50)
This was my favorite by a mile. The Tinga chicken was SUPER tender, the flavor was really on point, and the portion was quite generous for a taco. Tinga, if you haven’t had it, is shredded chicken cooked down in a chipotle and tomato sauce, so you get this gentle smoky heat that never bullies the flavor. If you only try one thing here, make it this! I’d get a whole order of just these next time.
Al Pastor and Chorizo Tacos
I rounded out my three with al pastor and chorizo. Neither one dethroned the Tinga (that was my fave by a mile), but they rounded out the order nicely. Good to know: the chicken-and-pork set also offers glazed pork belly as a fourth option, which I’m 100% getting next visit.
The Salsas (and That Habanero)
Okay, the salsas deserve their own moment. They come with your tacos, and the habanero one was extremely good, spicy but full of flavor, and it genuinely upped the whole experience for me. Pro tip if you’re dining in: they keep containers of the salsas by the soda machine, so load up! I’m not exaggerating when I say that habanero is half the reason I want to go back.

Churros with Dulce de Leche
I always need something sweet, so I grabbed an order of churros with dulce de leche. These were pretty standard, tasty but nothing that knocked me over, though the dulce de leche is always yummy. I probably wouldn’t get them again. Next time I’d rather save that room for one of their apps (the loco queso dip and guac both look worth it). So skip the churros, load up on tacos.
What Is Birria Pizza? And Is It Worth Ordering?
It’s exactly what it sounds like, and it might be the most fun thing on Mi Casa’s menu. Birria pizza takes the same slow-braised, chili-marinated beef you’d find in birria tacos and piles it onto a pizza with melty cheese, usually with a little cup of consome (the rich braising broth) on the side for dipping.
It’s a newer mashup that blew up because it brings that crispy, cheesy, dippable magic quesabirria tacos are famous for, just in pizza form. I filled up on the taco special and didn’t get to it this visit, but it’s first on my list for round two. If birria’s your thing, Big Papi’s over in Rockville does some next-level birria tacos worth a detour too.
The Vibe and Experience
Mi Casa’s a fast-casual, order-at-the-counter kind of spot, so it’s more grab-and-go than sit-down-date-night, but that’s part of the charm when the food comes out this quick and this good. It sits in a strip near The Melting Pot off Gaither Road, easy to pop into before or after errands (or, in my case, a road trip to Richmond). It’s the kind of place I’d hit for a fast weekday lunch or an easy takeout dinner when I don’t feel like cooking but still want something that tastes like someone back there actually cared.

Would I Go Back to Mi Casa Taqueria?
Mi Casa isn’t fancy, but it’s exactly the kind of affordable, seriously tasty taco spot I want in my back pocket, and that chicken Tinga plus habanero salsa combo alone is worth the trip. It’s a great pick if you’re after a quick, budget-friendly lunch in Gaithersburg or a fuss-free takeout dinner. If you’re on a taco hunt nearby, it’s in good company, Ixtapalapa Taqueria down the road does massive burritos for the same kind of value.
Have you guys made it to Mi Casa yet? If you go, get the Tinga and let me know what you think in the comments, Nomsters. And if you beat me to that birria pizza, I need a full report. Save this for your next Gaithersburg taco run, and send it to the taco-loving friend who’s always down to eat.
