Matcha Time Gift Shop in Old Ellicott City 🎁🍵
It’s no secret that I love Old Ellicott City. Tucked right on Main Street, Matcha Time Gift Shop has been one of my favorite stops for years. I’m still sad their café closed, but luckily, their cozy gift shop is still around, and it’s absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
And if you’re making a day of Main Street, the Old Ellicott City Farmers Market sets up nearby in Tiber Park from May through October with local sourdough, crepes, and fresh flowers, and Cafe June just opened a few doors down and is already one of my favorite cozy spots in Old Ellicott City.
What You’ll Find at Matcha Time Gift Shop
Matcha Time Gift Shop is small but packed with treasures. Think of it as a little slice of Japan in the heart of Ellicott City. You’ll find:
- Japanese + Asian snacks: everything from Pocky and mochi to unique Kit-Kat flavors and imported candies.
- Collectibles + figurines: Sonny Angels, blind boxes, and other fun finds that make great gifts (or guilty pleasures).
- Stationery: beautifully designed pens, journals, and letter sets – perfect for students, artists, or anyone who loves paper goods.
- Teaware: delicate Japanese teacups, matcha bowls (chawan), bamboo whisks (chasen), and pots that make tea time feel special.

It’s one of those places where you go in planning to “just browse” and end up leaving with a bag of goodies, lol.
Why It’s Worth a Stop
What I love about Matcha Time Gift Shop is how it blends Japanese tradition with a modern, playful vibe. The owners are passionate about sharing Japanese culture, and it shows in every corner of the store. Even though the café is no longer open, the shop still carries the spirit of its name, offering everything you need to bring a little matcha magic home.

If you’re shopping for the holidays (or honestly, just for yourself), it’s the perfect place to find thoughtful and unique gifts you won’t see at big-box stores. Whether it’s a hand-painted tea cup, a box of imported snacks, or a quirky collectible, you’re bound to find something special.
If you want to keep that gift-shop momentum going in a different part of Maryland, Uncharted Annapolis is a lifestyle boutique in Annapolis stocked with curated finds and fashion you won’t see at a chain.
