There’s a new little coffee spot on Main Street in Old Ellicott City, and honestly, Luna Coffee Bar delivered on the vibes the second I walked in. It opened at the tail end of summer in the old Cozy Cafe space, and the team did such a great job transforming it into a warm, tucked-in kind of place where I could absolutely see myself posting up with my laptop on a slow weekday.
I came for the coffee and matcha, but between the signature Strawberry Pistachio Matcha, the local Gingersnap Jess cookies, and the tarot cards and free stickers by the register, this turned into a really charming cafe find. If you’re hunting for a cozy new coffee shop in Ellicott City, Nomsters, let me tell you why Luna’s worth the trip.

What Sets Luna Coffee Bar Apart From Other Ellicott City Cafés?
Old Ellicott City already has a solid little cluster of cafes, so a new one has to bring something to stand out, and Luna’s whole thing is the atmosphere. They took the former Cozy Cafe space and made it genuinely inviting, super cozy and welcoming from the moment you walk in.
Beyond the interior, the draw is a rotating lineup of creative, flavor-forward drinks (think Strawberry Pistachio Matcha and a French Lavender Madeleine Latte) paired with pastries and cookies from a local baker. It’s brand new, it’s budget-friendly, and it’s already sitting at a perfect 5 stars. If you like discovering a spot early, this is one of those cafes worth getting in on now. For another new Ellicott City cafe with the same fresh energy, Cube Coffee is worth a look too.

What to Order at Luna Coffee Bar
Luna’s menu leans into fun, seasonal flavors, so here’s what I got and what’s next on my list.
Strawberry Pistachio Matcha ($7.50 regular, $8.50 large)
This is one of their signature drinks, and it was delightful! It combines matcha, strawberry, and pistachio in one cup, and you can tell they put real thought into it. They’ve got a bunch of yum flavors to choose from, and you can ask them to adjust the sweetness to your liking. If matcha’s your thing, this one is worth ordering. And while you’re on a matcha kick, Matcha Time Gift Shop is another Ellicott City spot worth knowing about.
Ube, Pandan and White Chocolate Cookie
I can never resist ube, so this was an easy call! It comes from Gingersnap Jess, a local baker Luna partners with, and it’s an ube, pandan and white chocolate cookie that I could not pass up. I totally forgot to write down the price (oops) so you guys will have to double check for me. There’s a whole rotating lineup of flavors too, like Salvadoran horchata, wild blueberry crumble, and black velvet, so you’ll want to peek at what’s in the case that day before you commit.
French Lavender Madeleine Latte with Housemade Whip
Full transparency, I didn’t get to this one, but it’s first on my list for next time. A floral lavender latte topped with housemade whip sounds right up my alley, and it’s exactly the kind of creative drink that tells you a cafe is actually having fun with its menu. They also rotate seasonal specials, like a caramel pecan latte, so there’s pretty much always a new reason to come back.
Who Is Gingersnap Jess?
If you keep seeing Gingersnap Jess pop up around the DMV, here’s the story. She’s Jessica Henry, a former federal employee who turned a baking side hustle into a full-time, woman-owned cookie business after leaving government work, and she’s since been featured everywhere from the New York Times to NBC4.
Her gourmet cookies show up at markets around Laurel, Rockville, and Takoma Park, and Luna is one of her cafe partners, so grabbing one with your drink is a nice little way to support two local businesses at once. That ube cookie alone is worth the stop!
The Vibe and Experience
The vibe is really the whole point at Luna. It’s small, cozy, and welcoming, set on that historic Main Street stretch of Old Ellicott City. I could easily see myself posting up here to work on a quiet weekday morning.
Little touches make it feel special too: they’ve got tarot cards available on the side and free stickers to take home, which is such a fun, unexpected detail. It’s a solo-friendly, laptop-friendly, catch-up-with-a-friend kind of spot. For a brand new place, it already nails the welcoming energy that makes you want to come back.
