Honeymoon Chicken DC: Fried Chicken and Caviar

August 17, 2026

Full disclosure: this post is sponsored by Honeymoon Chicken, but all opinions are my own.

If you haven’t had Honeymoon Chicken yet, RUN, don’t walk, because this Petworth spot’s putting out some of the best fried chicken in the entire DMV, and I’m not exaggerating! Now they’ve gone and added a caviar service, which is exactly the kind of extra I’m here for.

Honeymoon’s the beloved Petworth fried chicken shop on Georgia Ave that made its name on crispy, juicy buckets doused in hot honey and served with fluffy honey butter rolls. This time we got into the new caviar stuff on top of the classics, and I left very, very happy. So whether you want a classic bucket or you want to ball out a little, here’s exactly what to order.

Why You NEED to Check Out Honeymoon Chicken

Honeymoon Chicken opened in Petworth in 2022 from chef Rob Sonderman (formerly of Federalist Pig) and restaurateur Steve Salis, and it earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand nod early on. What sets it apart is the care in the details: the chicken’s all-natural, cage-free, and halal-sourced, and you can ask for all dark meat at no extra cost, original or spicy. The chicken’s crispy and juicy, the signature hot honey ties it all together, and those honey butter rolls are ridiculously good. Add the new caviar service on top and you’ve got a fried chicken spot that happily plays both comfort food and special occasion, which is a fun lane to be in.

What to Order at Honeymoon Chicken

Honeymoon Chicken Bucket ($29 for 8 pieces)

The bucket’s the heart of the whole operation and where you should start. Eight pieces of crispy, juicy, super flavorful chicken with breading that’s SO good, plus four fluffy honey butter rolls. Do yourself a favor and douse it in their signature hot honey. It’s the platonic ideal of a fried chicken order, and at $29 for eight pieces it feeds a crew.

Caviar Fish Slider ($16)

This was ridiculously tasty and one of the standouts. It’s crispy cornmeal-breaded flounder topped with a caviar tartar sauce on one of those honey butter rolls, and it’s pure magic, that mix of crunchy fish, creamy briny sauce, and sweet roll. If you’re caviar-curious but not ready to commit to the full service, start here.

Caviar Service ($55)

For the full ball-out moment, the caviar service gets you a full ounce of caviar with creme fraiche and wedge fries. I LOVE caviar so this is a must for me, and the pro move is adding it right onto your fried chicken. Is it a splurge? Absolutely! But it’s a really fun way to dress up a fried chicken night, and you can even add a half bottle of Veuve if you’re feeling it. Make it a whole bougie DC night and grab a nightcap at Allegory after.

A couple more notes for your order:

  • New drinks: the honey butter cold foam cold brew’s excellent, but I liked the iced matcha latte even more (both $5.50).
  • Lunch combos run Monday to Friday, 11 to 3, if you want a smaller midday version.
  • There are various vegetarian options too, including a crispy mushroom sandwich and hot honey cauliflower.

Is Honeymoon Chicken Halal?

Sort of, and it’s worth being precise. The chicken’s sourced from halal suppliers and they don’t serve pork, which is why halal eaters seek it out. That said, the restaurant itself isn’t halal-certified and it does have a full bar, so if you follow a strict certified-halal standard, it’s good to know the nuance going in. For a lot of folks, halal-sourced chicken and a no-pork kitchen’s exactly what they’re looking for.

The Vibe and Experience

Honeymoon’s a counter-service spot with dine-in and outdoor seating, so it’s casual by design, you order at the counter and settle in. That laid-back setup’s part of the charm, because it means you can get Michelin-nod-level fried chicken and caviar without any stuffiness or a dress code. It’s great for a casual dinner, a fun date that overdelivers on the ball-out factor, or a group grabbing buckets. There’s a full bar too, so you can actually turn it into a night. Just know parking’s street-only, so give yourself a minute.

Is Honeymoon Chicken Worth A Try?

Honeymoon’s up there with the best fried chicken in the DMV for me, and the new caviar service makes it a genuinely fun splurge on top of an already great bucket. Go for the classics if you want comfort, add the caviar if you want a moment, and either way you’re eating well.
