H Mart Frederick: From Korean Snacks to Claw Machines

September 28, 2026

Confession: I will absolutely reroute a whole drive for a good grocery store, lol. Whenever I’m driving up to see my parents in Pittsburgh, the H Mart in Frederick is a non-negotiable pit stop, and honestly it’s become one of my favorite little detours in Maryland.

If you’ve never been to an H Mart, it’s a Korean marketplace, but calling it a grocery store really undersells it. This one’s got a food court where I always grab soondubu, a Korean bakery I raid for my parents, an Artbox full of the cutest stationery, claw machines I’m way too weak for, and aisles on aisles of snacks and ingredients you just can’t find at a regular store.

It’s the kind of place where a quick errand turns into a full hour, and I’m never mad about it. If you’re anywhere near Frederick, this one belongs on your list!

Why H Mart Frederick Is More Than a Grocery Stop

H Mart’s the biggest Asian supermarket chain in the country, so you already know the grocery selection’s going to be stacked, but what makes the Frederick location a genuine destination is everything AROUND the groceries. You’ve got a full food court, a bakery, a stationery shop and claw machines all under one roof, so you can eat, shop and mess around for an hour without ever leaving.

For a lot of us in the area, it’s also just the easiest place to stock up on Korean and Asian staples you’d otherwise have to drive way farther for. Whether you’re a serious home cook or you just want a fun afternoon and a bag of snacks, it delivers. It’s a grocery run that somehow ends up feeling like an outing.

What to Get and Do at H Mart Frederick

Here’s how I always work my way through the place.

Grab Soondubu at the Food Court

The food court’s where Sogongdong Tofu House does the soondubu (Korean soft tofu stew), and I grab it basically every time. If you’ve never had it, it’s a bubbling, spicy stew of silky soft tofu that comes out screaming hot in a stone pot, and it usually comes with a raw egg to swirl in as it cooks. SO good!

They do bibimbap and Korean BBQ too, and the food court runs on a single-register system, so you order at one counter and grab your food from the vendor. It’s fast and exactly what I want every time.

Raid Juno Bakery and Cafe

The in-store bakery (it’s Juno Bakery and Cafe) is where I lose all self-control. My parents are obsessed with red bean bread, so I always load up a bunch for them, but the Korean pastries and even boba are all fair game too. It’s the kind of counter where everything looks so yum you somehow leave with way more than you planned on, oops.

Shop the Grocery Aisles

Then the main event, the actual groceries. Think banchan (those little Korean side dishes), every kind of kimchi and gochujang, a big fresh produce and seafood section (they usually have live lobster and tanks of fish), a wall of frozen dumplings, and snack aisles that are a real threat to my self-control. Even if you don’t cook much Korean food, it’s such a fun browse, and you’ll leave with stuff you didn’t know you needed.

Play the Claw Machines and Browse Artbox

I’m not leaving without hitting the mini claw machines, I’m obsessed, don’t @ me, lol. And right nearby you’ve usually got an Artbox, the Korean stationery and lifestyle shop that’s packed with the cutest stationery, plushies and little trinkets. It’s a great way to kill a little time, or to grab a cute gift on your way out.

My Frederick Pit Stop

Like I said, this H Mart’s tied to my parent visits, so it’s got a real soft spot in my heart. I roll in, grab soondubu, fill a bag with red bean bread, get sucked into the claw machines, and hit the road happy. But Frederick itself is worth lingering in, it’s easily one of my favorite towns in Maryland. If you’ve got time, downtown Frederick’s got a bunch of cute shops worth a wander before or after your H Mart haul. Make a whole little day of it.

The Vibe and Experience

Inside it’s big, bright and easy to navigate, and there’s a free parking lot out front, which, thank you. It’s very family-friendly, and it’s just as easy to pop in solo for a quick soondubu and a snack run. Weekends can get busy, but it moves. The best way to do it is to not be in a rush and give yourself time for all of it, the food, the shopping and the bakery run. That’s the move.

Is H Mart Frederick Worth the Drive?

One hundred percent yes! Even if you’re not stocking up on groceries, the combo of a soondubu food court, a Korean bakery, cute stationery and claw machines makes it a genuinely fun outing and not just an errand. It’s my ride-or-die stop every single time I’m passing through Frederick, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Have you guys been to the Frederick H Mart, or is there another location you swear by? Tell me your go-to H Mart hauls in the comments, Nomsters, I take snack recommendations very seriously. And if you’re making a full Frederick day of it, grab a Detroit-style pizza at White Rabbit Gastropub while you’re in town.
