Back when I lived in NYC, Pinkberry was my favorite, and I’ve been a plain tart froyo girl ever since. That perfectly sour, barely sweet swirl just does something for me. So when I finally pulled into Froyo House in Arnold, a self-serve frozen yogurt shop tucked into the Bay Hills shopping center near Annapolis, I walked in with high hopes. Short answer, I’ll def be back.
It’s a build-your-own, pay-by-the-ounce spot with a wall of classic flavors, a loaded toppings bar, and (the part that got me a little too excited) popping boba in a bunch of flavors. Our two cup rans around 7 to 8 dollars before tip, everything was spotless, and it scratched that exact craving I’ve been chasing. If you’re anywhere near Annapolis or Severna Park and you love froyo, you gotta get yourself here!

What Makes Froyo House a Standout Frozen Yogurt Shop in Arnold
What I love about a good self-serve spot is the control, and Froyo House nails it. You grab a cup, work your way down a row of around 16 rotating flavors, pile on whatever toppings you want, and pay by the ounce, so your froyo’s exactly as big (or as loaded) as you’re feeling that day. The flavor lineup covers the classics plus the fun stuff, and there’s real range for different diets: they’ve got vegan almond-milk froyo, dairy-free sorbet, and sugar-free and low-fat options mixed into the rotation. The other thing that stood out, and it matters more than people admit with self-serve, everything was truly spotless. Clean machines, clean toppings bar, clean tables. That’s a green flag for me every time.
What to Order at Froyo House
Here’s what we got, and how I’d steer you. The beauty of this place is you build your own, so treat these as a starting point and go wild from there.

Plain Tart Froyo
This is my go-to order and the one I judge every froyo spot by. Froyo House’s plain tart is exactly what I want: clean, properly tangy, with just a whisper of sweetness so it tastes like actual yogurt and not melted ice cream. It’s the flavor that made me a froyo person back in my Pinkberry days, and this one’s so yum. If you like it sour and refreshing over rich and candy-sweet, get a cup of this and don’t let anyone talk you out of it.
Mango and Green Apple Popping Boba
I could not resist the popping boba, and they had it in several flavors, so I loaded my tart froyo with mango and green apple. If you’ve never had it, popping boba is these little juice-filled spheres with a thin skin that burst the second you bite down, so you get a cold splash of fruit against the tangy yogurt. The two together, sweet mango and sharp green apple popping cold against that sour froyo, was such a good move! If popping boba’s your thing, my other go-to nearby is Sweet Bamboo over in Severna Park. They’re a must if you’re a fan of boba.
Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl with Mochi
My friend, Minje, went the classic route with a chocolate and vanilla swirl and topped it with mochi and chocolate caps, which looked great next to my sour cup. The swirl looked creamy and well-loaded, and between the chewy mochi and the chocolate caps it was a solid sweet build. If you’re bringing kids or you just lean sweet over tart, this is the crowd-pleaser. It’s also a good reminder that you can go totally different directions here and both walk out happy.
Beyond what we got, the flavor board rotates through options like cookies and cream, cake batter, salted caramel, and pink lemonade, and the toppings bar is stacked with 50-plus choices: fresh fruit, more mochi, candy, cereal, chocolate chips, and sauces.

How the Self-Serve Setup Works
If you’ve never done a pay-by-the-ounce froyo spot, it’s easy and kind of the whole fun of it. You grab a cup, pull your own froyo from the machines (swirl as many flavors as you want, no rules), then hit the toppings bar and add whatever you like. At the end, they weigh your cup and you pay by weight, so a light tart cup costs less and a fully loaded monster costs more. Newbie tip: toppings add up fast by weight, so go heavy on the ones you actually love and easy on the ones just along for the ride.
The Vibe and Experience
Froyo House is bright, casual, and family-friendly, the kind of low-key spot you hit after dinner or on a hot afternoon when you need something cold. It sits in the Bay Hills shopping center, so parking’s easy and you can pair it with other errands. Seating inside is a bit limited, so on a busy summer night you might grab your cup to go, but it’s a lovely treat stop. If you’re making a whole day of it around the area, it’s a great sweet finish after a bite at a spot like Chick and Ruth’s.

OF COURSE, and I already can’t wait for my next trip. For a plain-tart-froyo loyalist like me, this is exactly the fix I’ve been missing since my NYC days, and the popping boba pushes it over the top. It’s affordable-ish, and I love that there’s something for every diet and every sweet tooth at your table.
