Fractured Prune: Ocean City’s Iconic Boardwalk Donuts

July 20, 2026

If you’ve ever spent a summer down the shore, you already know the name Fractured Prune. It’s the iconic Ocean City boardwalk spot slinging hot, made-to-order donuts that you get to glaze and top however you want. I finally took my mom for her very first time, and a half dozen ran us $19. Best enjoyed hot, right out of the fryer.

No trip to OC’s complete without these, IMO. I’ve been grabbing Fractured Prune donuts for as long as I can remember, so the fact that my mom had NEVER had them before felt a little criminal, lol. We were down at 14th St, so obviously I had to put her on. Spoiler: she gets the hype now.

Here’s my honest rundown of what we got, what my go-to flavors are, and whether these boardwalk donuts are actually worth the $19, Nomsters.

What Fractured Prune Is Known For

The whole thing here’s the made-to-order setup. You don’t grab a pre-boxed donut off a shelf. They fry them fresh, then hand-dip each one in the glaze you pick and add your toppings, so every donut comes out warm. You can order one of their signature flavor combos or fully build your own, which is half the fun.

Because they’re made fresh on the spot, they’re at their absolute best while they’re still hot. Let one sit in the box too long and it’s just not the same donut. This is a spot you eat on the boardwalk, not one you save for the drive home. They even landed a spot on my roundup of the best donuts in Maryland, so they’re not just an OC-nostalgia pick for me, they genuinely hold up.

The other thing worth knowing is the sheer range. Between the glazes and the toppings, there are a ton of combos, which is why regulars like me end up with a couple ride-or-die orders and still leave room to experiment. It also makes it an easy spot for a group, since everyone can build a donut to their own taste instead of settling on one box.

What to Order at Fractured Prune

We got a half dozen for $19, and they were delicious as usual. Here’s what I always reach for.

Carnival: my ride-or-die. I’m a sucker for sprinkles, so this one’s basically non-negotiable for me every visit. It’s fun, it’s a little nostalgic, and it never misses.

Blueberry Hill: one of my top faves and a nice change of pace if you want something a touch fruitier than the classic sugar-and-cinnamon route. This is the one I’d steer a first-timer toward if sprinkles aren’t their thing.

OC Sand: the most on-brand donut you can order at the beach, and it earns its spot in my half dozen every single time. If you only try one “Ocean City” flavor, make it this.

Honestly, you kind of can’t go wrong here because you’re customizing as you go. If none of the signature combos speak to you, build your own glaze and topping combo and make it exactly what you want.

The Vibe on the Boardwalk

Part of what makes Fractured Prune, well, Fractured Prune is the setting. You’re grabbing these right on the OC boardwalk, so it’s casual, a little chaotic in the best way, and very much a walk-up-and-order kind of spot rather than somewhere you sit down. Watching my mom take her first bite of a hot, fresh donut with the ocean right there was the whole vibe, and it’s exactly why this place is such a core OC memory for me. Grab napkins, eat as you stroll, and just lean into the beach-day energy of it.

Every donut’s fried fresh and dipped and topped right when you order it, so nothing’s sitting around getting stale. It’s the same made-to-order, coat-it-on-the-spot experience I love at Sandy Pony Donuts, so if you’re the type who likes watching your donut come together, you’re in the right place. The trade-off’s that there can be a bit of a line in peak season, but it moves and it’s worth it.

How Much Are Fractured Prune Donuts?

A half dozen ran us $19, so I’ll be real with you, these aren’t the most budget-friendly donuts around. It’s a treat, not an everyday grab. That said, you’re paying for hot, made-to-order, hand-dipped donuts on the boardwalk, and for a vacation splurge I think it’s fair. Just go in knowing it’s a treat-yourself situation and not a bargain dozen.

It’s a bit of a splurge at $19 a half dozen, but these are a proper OC tradition for a reason, and watching my mom fall for them on her first try reminded me exactly why I keep coming back. Get them hot, get the Carnival, and don’t overthink it. If you’re chasing more of the state’s best while you’re at it, my beloved Weber’s Farm apple cider donuts up in Parkville are the perfect fall follow-up.
