Guess who’s back, back again? Far East, the beloved dim sum spot, has finally reopened after its much-anticipated renovation. Obviously, I couldn’t resist the craving for some dim sum, so I headed there on a Saturday with my foodie friend, @adorkandherfork. Let me tell you, the place filled up super quick, and yes, we were there right when the doors opened, lol.
We got quite the spread to satisfy our dim sum cravings, and let me tell you, every bite was pure deliciousness! Some standout dishes were the steamed roast pork bun, stuffed bean curd sheet, shui mai, sweet sesame ball, and my personal favorite, the egg tart (seriously, it’s ELITE)! I don’t know how they get it so creamy and flaky. It’s probably the best egg tart I’ve ever had [insert tears of joy].
If you want to try another take on egg tarts and made-to-order dim sum in Rockville, Corner Bites is well worth adding to your list, with a Cantonese BBQ pork pastry and egg custard tart that are two of the standout bites.
Now, let’s talk pricing! Their small dishes will set you back $5.50, medium dishes are $5.95, and the large ones are priced at $7.50. They also offer a variety of teas to complement your experience. We opted for the jasmine tea, priced at $1.50 per person, and it was a delightful addition to our meal.
Additional Tidbits:
- Far East has been serving delicious dim sum since 1974, and they’ve been at their current location since 1984, still managed by the same family. That’s some serious dedication!
- If you’re worried about parking, fear not! They have a fairly large parking lot, which adds to the convenience of your visit.
- Dim sum is available until 3 pm on weekends, and you can also enjoy it on weekdays until then. Just keep in mind that on weekdays, dim sum is offered off the menu, meaning no carts.
While you’re in the Rockville area, I also highly recommend Chuan Tian Xia for authentic Sichuan food — their grilled fish and mapo tofu are next level!
