Bread and Butter Kitchen Annapolis: Breakfast by the Water

July 19, 2026

I’m still dreaming about a single biscuit, and it’s entirely Bread and Butter Kitchen’s fault. This woman and veteran owned cafe sits right on the water in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis, and it’s the kind of warm, from-scratch spot you immediately wish was your neighborhood regular. The buttermilk biscuit with local pineapple jam is the thing I can’t stop thinking about, but the whole experience was a 10/10, so let me put you on to Bread and Butter Kitchen in Annapolis before you plan your next brunch.

What Bread and Butter Kitchen Is Known For

Bread and Butter Kitchen makes most everything from scratch and works with local farmers and vendors to source their ingredients, which you can taste in how fresh everything is. It’s run by owner Monica Alvarado, an Air Force veteran, and that community-minded spirit runs all the way through the place. Breakfast and lunch are served all day, so there’s no rushing to beat a cutoff.

The biscuits and the scones are the calling cards here. Their scones are apparently legendary, with flavors that rotate daily depending on what’s available. That from-scratch, source-local approach is really the throughline of the whole menu. It’s the kind of place where the freshness isn’t a marketing line.

What to Order at Bread and Butter Kitchen

Here’s everything Deke and I got this time:

  • Biscuit and Jam ($4): the star for me because carbs are my love language. A freshly made buttermilk biscuit with local pineapple jam, and omg, so good. This is the one I’m still dreaming about, and at $4 it’s a no-brainer add-on. Ugh, now I want to go back, lol.
  • Veggie Omelette ($12.29): three eggs packed with spinach, tomato, onion, green peppers, mushrooms, and cheese, served with toast (I went sourdough). A solid, veggie-loaded way to start the day.
  • Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken ($8.49 plus $4.29 for the protein): super fresh greens with tomato, cucumber, olives, feta, pepperoncini, and a house dressing. Light, bright, and a good call if you want something healthy!
  • Scones: I didn’t get to them this trip, and I’m kicking myself, lol. They’re the thing I’m going back for, so consider this my note-to-self and yours.

They’ve also started adding dinner items, and I spotted noms like crab queso and Korean fried chicken on their Instagram, so I obviously need to go back. Beyond what we ordered, the menu runs deep with pancakes, a Hippy Hash skillet, biscuits and gravy, sandwiches, and grain bowls, so there’s something for every kind of morning appetite. Whether you’re a sweet-breakfast person or a savory-skillet person, they’ve got you covered.

Where Can You Get Breakfast on the Water in Annapolis?

Right here, Nomsters. Bread and Butter Kitchen sits on the water in Eastport with both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can eat your biscuit with an actual waterfront view. There’s outdoor seating under umbrellas, they welcome dogs on the patio, and you can even arrive by boat and tie up at the dock at the end of 2nd or 3rd Street. Live music on weekends makes it even more of a whole morning.

The Vibe

I LOVED their space. It was so warm, welcoming, and inclusive that I genuinely wished it was closer to me, because I could see myself spending a LOT of time here. It’s counter-service and easygoing, great for a laid-back solo morning, a catch-up with friends, or a family breakfast.

Good to Know

  • Location and hours: 📍 303 Second St A, Annapolis, MD 21403 (Eastport), open 7:30am to 3pm daily. Breakfast and lunch are served all day.
  • Woman and veteran owned: a woman and veteran owned small business that leans hard into supporting local farmers and the community.
  • Parking: free street parking plus access to the Yacht Haven lot, and yes, you can come by boat (!!!!!)
  • Ordering: counter service, with online ordering through Toast. They also run a weekly Meals-to-Go program with a rotating menu if you want to grab dinner-ish food to take home.
  • Dietary: if you have any dietary restrictions, they’ll accommodate. Think vegan, gluten free, and kid friendly, they’ve got you.

Between the from-scratch biscuits, the waterfront seating, and how genuinely warm the whole place feels, this was a 10/10 experience, and I already know I’m going back for those scones (…and now the crab queso). For another beloved Annapolis breakfast, Chick and Ruth’s diner is a classic, but Bread and Butter’s the one I’m planning my next trip around.

Have you guys been yet, Nomsters? Tell me what you’d order first in the comments. OH, and it you’re making a morning of it, Annapolis has a lot to wander into afterward. One of my favorite free stops is the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum in the historic district, an easy add-on to a waterfront breakfast.
