Let me put you on to the spot that made our Southern Maryland road trip so worth it. Blue Wind Gourmet in Lexington Park is a cafe, deli, and wine shop all rolled into one, and it’s the kind of one-stop gem I could happily spend a whole afternoon in.
Robby aka @nomtasticfoods and I stopped by on our recent trip down to St. Mary’s County, and we came for the focaccia sandwiches but ended up wanting a little of everything, the bakery case, the wine, the local chocolate. If you’re anywhere near Lexington Park, this place is a must. The focaccia sandwiches are the move, the desserts are no joke (that chocolate chip cookie, Nomsters), and there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so you can actually sit and soak it in. Here’s everything we got and why I’d make the drive back.

What Makes Blue Wind Gourmet a Standout Cafe in Lexington Park
What sets Blue Wind apart is that it’s not just a cafe. Walk in and you’ve got a deli counter turning out fresh sandwiches in the middle, a wine and beer shop off to one side, and a case of baked goods and chocolates made right there on the other. It’s a gourmet market and a sit-down cafe at the same time, which is honestly a rare thing to find this far south in Maryland.
The locals clearly know it too, it’s one of the top-rated spots in all of Lexington Park, and it’s easy to see why once you’re standing in there trying to decide between a focaccia sandwich, a glass of wine, and a slab of peanut butter pie. For a small town, this spot punches way above its weight.
What to Order at Blue Wind Gourmet
The focaccia sandwiches are what you come for, so start there. We got two to share so we could try more of the menu, and that’s exactly what I’d tell you guys to do.
Chicken Avocado Mozzarella Focaccia
This one’s a classic combo done right, chicken, avocado, and mozzarella on their house focaccia. The focaccia is the foundation the whole sandwich is built on, and it works. If you want a solid, crowd-pleasing option, this is your pick. If a good sandwich shop’s your thing, The Big Cheese in Annapolis is another one I’d send you to.

Pork Trifecta Focaccia
If you lean savory, get this one. It’s a bit of a local legend, and regulars rave about it, three kinds of pork stacked on that same focaccia. It’s the sandwich I’d point a first-timer to if they want the full Blue Wind experience. Splitting it with the chicken one was the perfect call so we didn’t have to pick just one.
Peanut Butter Pie and the Chocolate Chip Cookie
Save room, because the sweets here are no joke. The peanut butter pie is exactly what you’d hope it would be, and worth saving room for. And that chocolate chip cookie? Ridiculously good, and one of the highlights of the whole visit. If you’re a bakery-case person like me, grab a couple extras for the road.
A few other things worth knowing if you’re building a bigger order:
- A full bakery case with croissants, muffins, scones, and pastries, all made in house.
- A rotating deli menu with other sandwiches, salads, and soups beyond the focaccia.
- Peet’s Coffee to go with your pastry if you need a caffeine fix.
- Gluten-free and vegetarian options if you’ve got dietary needs at the table.
The Market: Wine, Olive Oils, and Local Chocolate
Here’s the part worth knowing beyond the food. Blue Wind isn’t a spot you just grab lunch and leave, it’s stocked like a proper gourmet market. There’s a whole wall of wine plus beer, shelves of specialty olive oils and vinegars, and a case of local chocolate that’s actually made on site by Black Point Chocolatier, a Southern Maryland chocolate maker tucked right into the shop (you can read more about them on the St. Mary’s County tourism site).
It’s the kind of place where you come for a sandwich and leave with a bottle of wine, a fancy vinegar, and a box of chocolates you didn’t plan on. If you love a market-meets-restaurant setup like this, Eataliano Market and Deli in Columbia gives me the same one-stop energy.

The Vibe and Experience
The dining area’s a vibe, and there’s plenty of outdoor seating too if you’d rather catch some sun with your sandwich. It’s casual and welcoming, the kind of spot that works for a solo lunch, a catch-up with a friend, or a pit stop with the family on a road trip through Southern Maryland. Since it’s open early and runs into the evening most days, you can swing by for a morning pastry and coffee or a later lunch. It was a stop we were so glad we made, and one I’d send anyone through Southern Maryland to.

Is Blue Wind Gourmet Worth the Drive?
If you’re in or passing through St. Mary’s County, Blue Wind’s an easy rec, it’s a cafe, a deli, a bakery, and a wine shop in one, and everything we tried delivered. It’s especially great as a road-trip stop when you want real food, a sweet treat, and something to take home all in one place. If desserts are what pull you in, Black Market Bakers near Annapolis is another spot worth the line.
So there you have it, Nomsters, a Southern Maryland gem I’m so glad we found. Have you guys been to Blue Wind Gourmet yet? Let me know what you’d order in the comments, and if you’re planning a trip down to St. Mary’s, save this one for the list.
