For those of you looking for BOMB soup dumplings in Maryland, head to Bob’s Shanghai 66 ASAP. IMO, they have the BEST soup dumplings in the DMV. They’re located in Rockville, and they’re an absolute must-visit if you haven’t been yet.
They have a fairly large menu, but I usually only get soup dumplings when I go because they’re my favorite. My go-to kinds are pork and then crab + pork, but there are 3 other flavors available: shrimp + pork, chicken and shrimp + chicken.
I love that you can see them making dumplings, lol. I can’t even begin to imagine how many they make per week. Now if it’s your first time enjoying ’em, make sure you dig in while they pipin’ hot.
Be careful when handling them though because they’re filled with soup (hence the name). Use chopsticks to place one on your spoon, then add some soy sauce + ginger on top! Take a tiny bite out of the side and then suck the soup out. Once you enjoy the “broth” inside, bite into the rest of the dumpling and eat however you please. So, so good. I will never tire of these.
A few things to consider before you go. They get realllllly busy on weekends so if you can go on a weekday, that might be better? If you decide to go on a weekend, the earlier the better! I recommend going right when they’re open.
Make sure you bring cash! They’re no longer cash only, BUT they’ll give you a 10% discount if you pay with cash so I say it’s worth it to remember, lol. And if you’d prefer to get your fix at home or want to stock up, they offer frozen dumplings to go along with some other goodies.
