There’s a reason why people list Pepper House as one of the BEST Chinese restaurants in Maryland. Tucked away in a small shopping center in Ellicott City, they’re an absolute must visit! They’re famous for their fantastic Sichuan cuisine, and everything is made in house. I featured them a long while back, but it’s been a minute so I thought I’d highlight them again. SO, here’s what I got this time around:
▪️Singaporean Style Stir Fried Rice Noodles ($15.99 + 1 for a protein of your choice): Literally everything I got was SO good, and these were no exception. I got mine with beet & asked for curry + spice. The flavors were so good, and I also really enjoyed the texture of the noodles. Highly recommend.
▪️Beef Malatang ($17.99): made with sliced beef, luncheon meat, potatoes, tofu puffs, seaweed, lotus root and cabbage – this was kind of like a personal sized hot pot. I got mine “normal” and it still had some great heat to it. I was surprised by the portion size, and I had more than enough for seconds the next day. This also came with rice FYI!
▪️Chengdu Dumplings in Chili Oil Sauce ($14.99): delicious housemade dumplings in a fantastic sauce. I loved their chili wontons, but I think I liked these even more. I saved leftovers for @deke_dc, and he agreed as well.
Honestly, a truly stellar meal, and it was just as delicious as I remembered. Definitely make sure to pay this amazing mom and pop shop a visit the next time you’re in the area. I can pretty much promise that this place will hit the spot, and the accolade and well deserved.
A few things to keep in mind though:
▪️They have indoor dining, but their restaurant’s fairly small so they do a lot of carryout
▪️They sell their own chili oil by the bottle and it’s SO good
▪️The husband & wife duo that own this spot are SO nice – she works the front while he chefs it up in the back
▪️Siroo is right next door so save room for bingsu afterwards
