A No-Frills Classic Worth the Drive: Sunshine General Store in Brookeville
I’ve gotten SO many messages about Sunshine General Store. Brookeville is a bit of a drive for me, so it took a while to finally make it out there, but I’m really glad I did. This spot is a total hidden gem and proof that sometimes the most unassuming places end up being the most memorable.
This spot is a no-frills establishment that used to operate as a gas station general store. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, but honestly, that only added to the intrigue for me. Once you step inside, it almost feels like you’re going back in time, which is part of its charm. It’s casual, unfussy, and exactly the kind of place you go to for comfort food done right.
What We Ordered…
To place your order, head to the back of the store. There’s a small seating area with a table and stools, and the menu is surprisingly extensive – think everything from pancakes to cheesesteaks. Deke and I shared two items:
- Bacon Cheeseburger: A classic “standard” burger, but done well. Super solid, satisfying, and hits the spot. Just a heads-up: burgers are cooked fully through unless you ask otherwise, so be sure to specify if you want a different temperature.
- Cheesesteak: Definitely a yum handheld! The bread was incredibly soft, and honestly… I may have enjoyed this even more than the burger.
Sunshine General Store has a casual, counter-service setup with a small indoor seating area, keeping the experience simple and straightforward. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, focusing on classic comfort food without any bells or whistles.
