Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise: the BEST Burgers and Dogs in Frederick?

August 23, 2026

If you haven’t been to Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise yet, you’re high key missing out! This Frederick spot had been on my list for ages, and I finally made it happen, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a fast-casual paradise for burgers, loaded hot dogs and ice cream, and it’s one of those longtime local institutions that just gets it right.

The Nacho Dog and the Cajun Bleu Burger were both so good, and I wasn’t leaving without dessert either. This is the kind of place where you use local beef, everything’s made to order, and you leave already planning round two. It’s a must if you’re anywhere near Frederick, whether you’re a burger person, a hot dog person, or a “give me a milkshake the size of my head” person, lol. Here’s everything I got.

What Makes Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise a Standout Burger and Hot Dog Spot in Frederick

What makes this place special is that it’s been doing the classics well for decades. It’s the oldest family-owned carry-out of its kind in Frederick, and they use 100 percent ground chuck with no fillers, sourced from the nearby Mount Airy Meat Locker, so the burgers actually taste like something. Beyond burgers, they load up hot dogs every which way and pour something like 40 shake flavors, so it’s a full-on comfort-food playground. The Washington Post has called it a Frederick mainstay, and the line during peak hours backs that up. It’s not fancy, it’s a walk-up window with outdoor seating, but the food’s the kind you drive out of your way for.

What to Order at Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise

Here’s everything I got, and fair warning, you’ll want to save room for dessert.

Cajun Bleu Burger (8 oz, $12.49)

This burger’s a whole event. It’s a huge 8-ounce patty dipped in hot sauce, then topped with ham, fresh fries, lettuce, tomato, onion and bleu cheese dressing. It’s completely over the top, and the flavors are seriously bold, so come hungry. It’s loaded to the max, exactly what you want when you’re going big. Not a light bite, but that’s the whole point.

Nacho Dog ($7.99)

I love hot dogs so much, and this one was absolutely delicious. It’s a juicy dog topped with nacho cheese sauce and jalapeños, and it was so satisfying. The only note from the spice fiend in me is that I wanted even more jalapeños, but that’s an easy fix. I’d def get this again, no question. If you’re a hot dog fan, this one’s a great pick.

Peanut Butter Overdose ($8.59)

This sundae was so, so yummy. Picture vanilla ice cream topped with homemade peanut butter sauce, broken Reese cups and crushed peanuts, all in a waffle bowl. It’s absolute perfection, especially on a hot day. You guys gotta try it!

Banana Malted Milkshake ($5.99 for 16 oz)

Because my sweet tooth’s out of control, I got a shake too, lol. It was a little on the sweet side, but I didn’t really mind, and I loved the little bits of banana blended inside. I finished the entire thing, no shame. With around 40 flavors on the board, I’ve already got my eye on the egg custard for next time.

A few other things worth knowing: they also do sandwiches and subs, plus fun burgers like a Hawaiian (teriyaki and grilled pineapple) and a Rowdy (chili and onion rings), beer-battered onion rings, and sweet potato fries. But if it’s your first time, my rec is to keep it simple and get a burger AND a hot dog.

Wait, Why Isn’t It Called Cheeseburgers ‘n Paradise?

Here’s a fun bit of trivia, since the name always makes people do a double take. The spot originally opened back in 1995 as Cheeseburgers ‘n Paradise. Then Jimmy Buffett’s team came knocking over trademark concerns, right around the time he was launching his own restaurant chain with a similar name, so the owners pivoted to Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise. Honestly, I think they landed on the better name, and the “paradise” part still fits once you’ve got a loaded burger in one hand and a shake in the other. It’s a little piece of Frederick history baked right into the sign.

The Vibe and Experience

This is a walk-up, order-at-the-window kind of place, and they call your name over a loudspeaker when your food’s ready (there’s a drive-through window too). Seating is all outdoors under umbrellas, so it’s best on a nice day, and just a heads up, there’s no public restroom on site. The parking lot’s on the smaller side and fills up fast at peak times. One real tip from my visit: call ahead and do pickup if you can, because even during an off hour I waited about 25 to 30 minutes. It’s a beloved spot for a reason, so a little patience pays off.

Is Beef ‘n Buns ‘n Paradise Worth A Visit?

One hundred percent yes. If you’re in or passing through Frederick, this is a must, especially if you love a big, unapologetic burger with a loaded dog and a shake on the side. It’s not health food and it’s not trying to be, it’s just really satisfying, made-to-order comfort food from a spot that’s earned its status as a Frederick mainstay. I’m already planning my next visit (that egg custard shake is calling). If you want another great Frederick burger while you’re out there, Fifty Fifty does a top-tier smashburger in town.
