Banh Mi Oi Falls Church: Maybe the Best Banh Mi in NoVA

August 7, 2026

Every so often a sandwich stops me in my tracks, and Banh Mi Oi in Falls Church did exactly that. This little Vietnamese spot inside Eden Center makes what is easily one of the best banh mi I’ve ever had, and I mean ever. I grabbed their signature banh mi, the Nashville Hot Chicken, and an egg coffee, and every single thing was ridiculously good. 10/10, no notes.

It’s the kind of meal that made me call my boyfriend Deke right after to tell him I HAD to bring him here. If you’re anywhere near Falls Church and you love a proper banh mi, with fresh-baked bread and that perfect savory-tangy balance, put this one at the top of your list. Let me put you on, Nomsters, because Banh Mi Oi is special.

What Makes Banh Mi Oi a Standout in Falls Church

Here’s the story that makes this place hit different. Banh Mi Oi started in the Boston area, where owner Yeanie Bach built it as a tribute to her mom, who ran a banh mi cart back in Saigon. The name itself is the call street vendors use to flag you down, and Falls Church is the first location outside of Massachusetts. It’s tucked inside Eden Center, the big Vietnamese shopping and dining hub that’s basically the heart of Vietnamese food in the DMV.

Best of all, they bake their own bread fresh every day, which, if you know banh mi, is everything. For anyone new to it, a banh mi is the Vietnamese sandwich born from French colonial influence: a light, rice-flour baguette with a crackly crust, layered with pate, house mayo, a protein, and a pile of pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeño. When the bread’s this good and this fresh, the whole thing sings. It’s right up there with my favorite banh mi in Maryland, Saigon Blvd in Catonsville, and I might just like this one even more.

What to Order at Banh Mi Oi

Two banh mi sandwiches cut in half, filled with fried chicken, cucumber, and pickled vegetables in paper wrappers

Signature Banh Mi ($8.75)

Start with the signature banh mi ($8.75), because this is the one that made me go whoa. That fresh-baked baguette is half the battle and they nail it, crackly on the outside, airy in the middle. Piled with savory protein, house egg-yolk aioli, pickled veggies, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeño, it’s the perfect balance of savory, tangy, fresh, and just a little heat. This is one of the best banh mi I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that lightly.

Nashville Hot Chicken Banh Mi ($12.99)

Then there’s the Nashville Hot Chicken banh mi ($12.99), which is such a fun fusion move. It takes crispy fried chicken tenders rolled in that cayenne heat and tucks them into a banh mi with all the fresh, pickled fixings, so the crunch and the spice get cut by the cool, tangy veggies. If you like a little fire, this one’s calling your name. Between this and the signature, you really can’t go wrong.

Egg Coffee ($6.88)

And you can’t leave without the Egg Coffee ($6.88). More on what it actually is below, but the short version: it’s rich, creamy, and drinks more like a coffee dessert than a cup of joe. It’s a sweet way to round out the order, and the whole thing was 10/10, no notes.

A few other things on the menu if you want to keep exploring:

  • Classic cold cuts, grilled pork, lemongrass steak, crispy shrimp, pork meatball, and BBQ chicken banh mi
  • Vegetarian options like lemongrass seitan and five-spice tofu, plus vermicelli and rice bowls
  • A full Vietnamese coffee lineup beyond the egg coffee, including phin-drip iced coffee and pandan cream coffee

If you’re chasing Vietnamese a bit closer to Howard County, An Loi in Columbia is another spot I like, with pho and banh mi on the menu.

What Is Vietnamese Egg Coffee?

Since the egg coffee’s a must-order, let me break it down, because a lot of people hear “egg coffee” and get a little nervous. Vietnamese egg coffee, or ca phe trung, was invented in Hanoi back in 1946, when a milk shortage pushed a bartender to whip egg yolk with sugar and condensed milk instead. That whipped, custardy foam gets spooned over strong, dark Vietnamese coffee, and the result tastes way more like liquid tiramisu than anything eggy. It’s rich, sweet, and so smooth. If you’ve never tried it, Banh Mi Oi’s a perfect place to start.

The Vibe and Experience

Banh Mi Oi is a whole experience, not just a sandwich counter. The Falls Church space has two floors, and each one’s designed to feel like a different slice of Vietnam. Upstairs channels 1970s Saigon nightlife, and downstairs feels like a calm little village, right down to the small details. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to linger over your coffee. ALSO, Eden Center gets busy on weekends, but that’s part of the charm.
